A group of friends and I did the Scandals tour with Simone! It was fantastic and informative! We all live in Rome and saw things we have never seen before. Simone was knowledgeable and a lot of fun. The company was great too in organizing the event for us. Highly recommend!

We went on three tours. Ancient City and Colosseum Walk, Skip-the-Line Vatican & Sistine Walk, and Borghese Gallery. All three were outstanding. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We learn so much and experienced a truly excellent adventure.

My nephew and I truly enjoyed three different tours during our one week stay in Rome. They were outstanding and made the trip so fun and meaningful. It is delightful to have an expert guide you. We couldn't decide which tour we liked the most. Each was guide was excellent.Booking was easy. I would highly recommend this company.

Dear Rome Walks, I want to let you know that we enjoyed all our tours. I have forgotten most names, but I can say that we were pleased. Our Venice guide took good care of us and made the decision to meet us at our hotel. This was a very good decision as we would have had difficulty finding the meeting location. Our Florence guide also met us at our hotel. She took took time to get my kids interested in the tour and even had a sight seeing game for them. Very well done. Laura and Claudia were fantastic. Claudia went out of her way to keep my kids interested. Laura, well she was the best. She took great care of me and my family and I must say she is a wonderful ambassador for your company.

Just wanted to send a quick note to say just how wonderful our tours were while in Rome. Laura (Colosseum/Forum tour) and Janet (Ghetto/Trastevere tour) were just amazing! Such supremely intelligent and kind women. We really wish we could have spent more days with them. Thanks for a wonderful time!l Laura Beck and family

Such a brilliant tour with Francesca on Saturday. She brought ancient Rome so alive in our tour of the Forum and the Colosseum that we could imagine being surrounded by the gladiators, the senators as well as the ordinary citizens. Her knowledge and enthusiasm was so infectious that we rushed out and bought some more books about the city and its past. Speaking as a teacher myself she is undoubtedly gifted as well as being very funny. We could have spent all day with her and still wanted more. Thanks for a great time Francesca.

Our tour of the Vatican with Maria Rosario exceeded all of our expectations. As an expert in Art History, she brought so much intelligent insight to our viewing of what we saw. Furthermore, she made sure that we got to see "Papa Francesco," as the Italians call him, up close. Although of course the Vatican was crowded that day, we felt that we had a very personal view of amazing art in a spiritual setting. Maria Rosario is not only the ultimate professional and a gifted tour guide, but also a caring person. We were all impressed with her handling of a random lost child in the Basilica. I wish we could have stayed in Rome longer to take advantage of more Rome Walks tours. Thanks!!

We did 3 different tours with rome Walks. A group of 6 adults for 1 and 4 adults for the other 2 (plus a small baby). These tours were fantastic and we loved every minute. Right from the beginning, our dealing with Erica by email, was lovely and she was extremely obliging and helpful in seeking to help us find the tours and times that best suited us and our group. Our guides, Sara - for the Ancient Rome walk, John - for the food and wine walk Francesca - for the Borghese Gallery tour, were all extremely well qualified (an archeologist, a master Sommelier, and an art historian respectively) and their knowledge of their chosen profession was astounding, as was their passion. We had the most amazing time and we learned so much about the history of Rome, its art, and how it came to be, and about wine and food. John told us things that, although we have been to quite a few wine appreciations and tastings, we have never heard regarding wine and food before, and he was so helpful in with suggestions for good restaurants (John, you went above and beyond, thank you!), Sara was a wealth of information about the history of Rome and she was incredibly thoughtful and considerate of us, making special arrangements for us to facilitate easier and faster passage, because we had a baby in a stroller(thank you Sara!) and the lovely Francesca, not only filled us with information and history regarding the artwork and sculptures we saw, but her passion for her field was contagious. I cannot but highly recommend this well organised, professional and friendly organisation.

We went on the Vatican tour today with Francesca The tour was absolutely fantastic, both because of the content of the tour but mainly because of Francesca She was so knowledgeable and passionate on the areas that we visited that our visit was made memorable Thank you and we would recommend your tours to everyone

We took the Vatican tour with Francesca and it was wonderful. The small intimate group setting is by far our favorite format. Francesca is truly a gem. She is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic and her enthusiasm is infectious. The time just flew by. I also am impressed with the company Rome Walks and the professional manner in which you do business. Our tour was moved up 45 minutes and apparently my spam filter on my email sent the email notification back so I never received it. I was impressed that you continued to use other attempts to contact me including a phone call too me in the US and sending another email from a different email address. The extra effort was appreciated and I will highly recommend Rome Walks to people I know who are coming to Rome. We are scheduled for another tour tomorrow at the Colosseum so our guide tomorrow has big shoes to fill to match our tour today.

Went on a twilight walk with Guen a few nights ago. It was an absolutely incredible experience. First, let me say that dealing with Rome Walks has been incredible since the beginning. It was easy to ask questions and to book our tour. They were extremely responsive. Then, our flight to Rome got canceled and we had to miss our scheduled tour. They accommodated us and rebooked us for the next night without any problem. Then, the tour. Our guide was so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what she told us. She took us around, gave us information, answered all of our questions and amazed us with her knowledge. Thank you Rome Walks for a fabulous experience.

We took 3 different tours with Rome Walks. I must commend Rome Walks for their small group tours are kept at a minimum. All of our tours were no more than a group size of 4-6, this allows the tourist to have so much more freedom with questions. We started with Paul on the Twilight Rome Walk on our first night in Rome. His introduction of Rome was so enjoyable and his knowledge of the city was full of definition. He shared the history that encompasses this great city and kept our tour moving with ease. The next day we toured the Vatican & Sistine Chapel with Francesca. She was able to point out so much and share the history about everything that we couldn't have possibly experienced on our own. She is a true lover of her Popes and shared her passions of the beauty within this great walled city. She allowed us to take in all the beauty plus add so much detailed explanations. Her knowledge that she shared about Michelangelo was amazing, we learned so much about the Popes and the artists. It was a pleasure to tour with her. Our last tour to the Colosseum & Ancient City with Andrea. He was a wealth of information about these unbelievable pieces of history. This tour brought the history to life. Andrea was so passionate about these ruins and the history that we really felt we were a part of it. The stories/history that he shared was my dream come true of ancient Rome. He was more than accomodating with all questions that he was presented with. When in Rome, Rome Walks tours are a must! My head is still spinning with all the history. Thank you Rome Walks.

We have just returned from 5 nights in Rome, with my parents. If you recall, we booked a Vatican & Sistine Chapel tour with you and this massively exceeded all our expectations. Our guide, Laura, should have a gold medal! She was relaxed, incredibly informative and great fun! Just as importantly, she understood the balance between ensuring that we were captivated by her knowledge and yet not over-whelmed with information. This was despite her pregnancy! An additional treat was that she helped us get organised to to be present at the Pope's general audience - something that we kept as a surprise for my parents. It is clear that you all pride yourself on providing exceptional customer service that included your's and Erica's prompt out-of -hours support and advice with regard to my enquiries. Thank you everyone!

11/04/2015 - Elina (Greece)
Andrea Flavioni is pleasant, friendly, obviously passionate in his work and speaks very good English. It was not our first time in Rome, but thanks to Andrea's tour in the ancient city it was the first time we really got the idea of how Rome was at the time of the Ceasars. Necessary experience to anyone for whom antiquities are something more than mere stones, especially to those who love History. Furthermore, it is a remarkable achievement that he kept a teenager interested for the best part of the tour! Thank you Andrea. Stephanos and Elina

3/21/15- We decided to do a number of tours with Rome Walks but by far the private tour that we booked of the Colosseum and ancient Roman forum was the best. I can not even begin to put into words how wonderful our tour guide Francesca was. Funny, incredibly passionate and knowledgable, as well as engaging. As a former teacher, I must say that she is a gifted educator. Francesca is truly a gem. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

11/02/2015 - Ruth Hagan (Ireland)
Had a fantastic time at the weekend with Simone taking just the two of us around Ancient Rome. He was knowledgable, interesting , humorous and spoke excellent English. I would recommend without hesitation using this company that have proved very efficient in all aspects of their business. This was the icing on the cake of a perfect weekend in Rome.

I traveled and love to invest time discovering. I’ve always self-guided until recently. On 10/10, my wife booked a Vatican Friday night guided tour with Maria Rosaria and I am now sold on the value a guide provides. Watching the herding of the other tours and self-guided throngs gave me pause to be concerned but then a relaxed Maria Rosaria arrived we were put at ease. She led us through entry and all of the Vatican with skill and delivered a sense of awe the space deserved. In nearly 4 hours we received an excellent English commentary on the art, history and politics of the Vatican, Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel. Frankly I had allocated 15 hours of my Rome experience to do the Vatican justice. After our highly personal tour, I did not feel the need to re-visit! That is VALUE!

01/10/2014 - Merrill Hartson (United States)
Our tour guide Francesa was outstanding in all respects. She was pleasant, open, forceful not fitful, and incredibly knowledgeable. She was passionate about her subject and compassionate with the seniors she had in tow. She made four hours fly by. And the occasional grunts and pants of the wobbly-legged quartet could neither weaken her resolve nor curb her enthusiasm. I don't know how many stars constitute the top rating. But arbitrarily picking a number offers too little light for this analysis. This one was in a galaxy of its own.

27/09/2014 - Vikki S. (United States)
My husband and I took a tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel with Rome Walks a few weeks ago. Our tour guide was absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend this company to anyone wanting to have a an opportunity to see these wonderful sites and learn about the history etc. from an expert!

13/09/2014 - Liliya Babadzhanov (United States)
Many thanks to Annie and Justin for accommodating our family of 4 with above and beyond customer service! They graciously offered us to make up our Ancient city and Colliseum tour that we were forced to miss by unexpected circumstances that morning and combined it with twilight tour. Justin was very interesting and personable, he made 5 hours of walking easy and fascinating ! This company impressed us with exceptional kindness and hospitality. Thank you! Traveled on 8/20/14

23/08/2014 - Jacques Mouton (South Africa)
Francesca was an excellent guide! Her knowledge coupled with bits of fun/humor made 3hours visiting Colloseum and Forum fly by- highly recommended

07/08/2014 - Kevin Golden (United States)
My wife, daughter, and I were joined by one other woman on a tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's by Francesca, a lovely young woman with a great deal of knowledge of and passion for art history. The tour took over three hours, and it was never not interesting. She was thorough and informative without being dull and without being condescending to those of us who don't know much about art. Her presentations included enough history and background to place the artwork in its historical context, and we learned a great deal and enjoyed the time we spent with her. I will recommend Rome Walks and Francesca to everyone I know who visits Rome.

15/07/2014 - Cindy (United States)
Maria made the tour of the Vatican come to life. Her passion for the subject and art made it interesting and enjoyable even for a 16 year old.

24/06/2014 - Anthony Spajic (Australia)
Simone brought the Colosseo and Roman Forum to life with wonderful energy and enthusiasm. Maria gave us fantastic insights about the Vaitcan Museum and St. Peter's Basilica, she was as impressive as the sights themselves.

15/06/2014 - Megan Ferrell Burke (United States)
My husband and I came to Rome as part of our honeymoon. He was wary about a 4 hour tour through the Vatican Museum, but our guide, Simone, kept things so interesting that the time flew by. In addition to being incredibly knowledgeable, he was charming and funny, and he really helped the history of the art to come alive. We are so glad we took a guided tour, and we rave to everyone that if they come to Rome, they must do a tour with Rome Walks! Get Simone if you can!

30/05/2014 - Deborah Stobaugh (United States)
We toured the Ancient City with Paul and the Vatican with Simone this past month. Both guides were educational and entertaining. We have been on many guided tours and enjoyed yours the most. We found you through Rick Steves' travel guide. Looking forward to seeing you again.

29/05/2014 - William (United States)
My wife and I took the 'Peter & Paul - Patron Saints of Rome' walking tour on 18 May 14 with Justin. We have done many guided tours / walks in Rome and other major cities across Europe and can unequivocally say Justin was the best guide we have ever had. His knowledge of and passion for the subject of early Christianity in Rome and its surroundings can only be described as amazing. I would highly recommend Justin and this tour to anyone visiting Rome.

09/04/2014 - Sheri (Italy)
Thanks to Francesca, we had an awesome tour of the Roman forum and the Colosseum! She made it so interesting and we learned so much!

21/03/2014 - Aditya (United States)
We did ancient Rome and Colosseum with Paul. It turned out that our group was just me and my wife. It made the experience even more personal. Paul was fantastic and took us on a great history lesson. His knowledge of history, anecdotes was phenomenal. We only wish that we should have booked an extra tour with Rome Walks.

01/03/2014 - Stephane J (France)
We had a fantastic experience visiting the Vatican with Rome Walks, thank to all the staff for being so friendly and very well skilled. Hope to see you again in Rome!

My family of 5 enjoyed our Colosseum/Roman forum tour with Paul. He made it worth every penny and more. We enjoyed his humor and knowledge. So glad we found this tour.

On July 3 my sister, 2 granddaughters and I had the distinct pleasure of taking a Skip the line Vatican city walk with Francesca. Francesca was the consummate guide! She is so knowledgeable and has a most delightful personality. What more could we have wished for. She is definitely an ambassador for your company. A huge THANK YOU Francesca!

13/07/2013 - Lana (Australia)
We are a family of five who enjoyed two private tours in Rome with Rome Walks. Our guide Mauro was brilliant - he was knowledgable, good with the kids and tailored the experience to suit our needs. We could not recommend more highly!

09/07/2013 - Lora Fukuda (United States)
We really enjoyed our 3-hour tour of the Vatican. Our guide was Francesca and she was FANTASTIC -- we felt SO LUCKY to get her. She was so friendly and knowledgeable about the art and architecture and the history behind what we were seeing. You can tell how much she loves her job and everything she told us was so interesting -- we were with our kids and no one ever got bored. Also, the group size is perfect. We saw other groups with 50 people and it seemed awful. Francesca was able to engage with each of us and she just so lovely and nice. We highly recommend Rome Walks -- the tour was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

04/07/2013 - Wayne (United States)
We purchased the RomeWalks “Skip the Line - Vatican City” tour for early June, 2013. We made reservations online and then paid cash the day of the tour. We received excellent instructions regarding the meeting point just outside St. Peter’s square. It happened to be a papal blessing day, with approximately 20,000 people in the square. Nevertheless, our guide Francesca met us without problem and led us through the throng to the Vatican Museum entrance, where we did indeed “skip the [long] line”. We also skipped the long line to enter the basilica. Francesca was a model guide. She is a Ph.D. student in art history, with a specialization in pre-1500 Italy and currently at the dissertation stage. Needless to say, she was extraordinarily well informed. She was also every bit the young scholar in her very enthusiastic survey of the treasures of Bernini, Michelangelo and all the other great artists and masterworks of the Vatican. She not only provided excellent historical, cultural and artistic information, she cheerfully and thoughtfully answered many questions from our group of eight visitors. We highly recommend this guided tour.

27/06/2013 - Jenny (Australia)
Thankyou Francesca for a most enjoyable and informative tour of the Vatican Museum. Your passion for this beautiful city is evident in your manner and by the interesting way in which you presented the information. I loved the way you used narratives to explain and inform. It was a most enjoyable tour. Many thanks.

On June 6th 2013 we did the Coliseum and Vatican skip the line tours. Franchesca was our guide and her knowledge and enthusiasm kept you captivated throught the tour. Of all the trips we have done, she is by far, the best tour guide EVER

18/06/2013 - James Weaver (United States)
We took the Rome Scandal, Past and present tour. I can't remember the name of our guide. he was from Toronto, Canada. He was excellent. Not only did he speak perfect English, he was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge of Roman history. He was passionate about our tour and answered all our questions. He was definately 5 star all the way! Thank you!

10/06/2013 - Susan Brisnehan (United States)
28/05/2013 Richie was our tour guide for the Twilight Rome Walks. English is his first language and so he was easily understandable. He provided excellent insight into many of the sculptures and buildings which made the tour very interesting for our family.

10/06/2013 - Susan Brisnehan (United States)
28/05/2013 - 29/05/2013 We enjoyed our two tours: Ancient City and the Colosseum Walk and Skip the Line Vatican - 4 hour with Franchesca. She was a very informative, enjoyable guide and we were thrilled with her knowledge of the area and sights. Her English was suberb, which was important to us as we do not speak any Italian. We highly recommend her and both tours. Our vacation was richly enhanced by her knowledge and love of Rome and Italy.

05/06/2013 - John and Diane Smith (United States)
June 5, 2013 Vatican tour with Francesca. Wow, what an experience. From meeting her at the start of the visit until the very end, her enthusiasm for her subject, coupled with her deep knowledge and love of art made the tour unbelievable memorable. We got so much out of the art and history that we were overwhelmed. Diane is an art lover, especially of Raphael, and Francesca and her were completely in sync. Her presentation skills were outstanding and the four hours flew by. Thanks to Francesca and Rome Walks for helping make our first visit to Rome unforgettable and memorable. One would be foolish to attempt to appreciate Rome art at any level without engaging Rome Walks. Great job!

05/06/2013 - John and Diane Smith (United States)
June 2, 2013. Twilight Rome Walk with Julia was excellent. Her knowledge and personality made the experience outstanding. The two hours flew by! Having tried to work our way through some museums and other venues without her expertise made us realize how much we missed. Thanks to Julia for making our first experience of Rome truly memorable!

08/03/2013 - Bruce Jenyon (Germany)
We would like to thank you for the excellent guided tours that we had on 2 of our 4 day stay in Rome. Both were very fascinating and good fun, we learnt a lot about Rome and it's hidden secrets.

28/02/2013 - Sherry Flack (United States)
Francesca was our guide on Jan. 31, 2013 and Feb. 1, 2013. She was delightful, extremely knowledgeable, and a wonderful spokeswoman for your organization!!! Our group of 15 from Freeport, IL had a great time in Rome because of her. She is an asset to Rome Walks. Thank you so much Rome Walks for assisting us with all or questions and concerns.

29/11/2012 - Sara McCauley (United States)
We did two tours: the Ancient City group tour and the Skip the Line private Vatican tour, both with Francesca. The tours were the highlights of our trip. Francesca was lovely and so knowledgeable. We threw coins in the Trevi Fountain so we can come back to Rome, and when we do we will take another Rome Walks tour!

01/11/2012 - Mrs Benoiton (Australia)
We did a 4 hour Vatican and Sistine Chapel tour yesterday 29 Oct 12 with Francesca from Rome Walks. It was an enlightening tour. Francesca was wonderful and made the tour so much more interesting and meaningful. The crowds in the museum are, at times, quite overwhelming but Francesca always seemed to find a space for us to appreciate what was around us. Thank you.

01/11/2012 - Ann Linnekens (United States)
We loved the two walking tours in Rome. The 4 hour Vatican tour and 3 hour Coliseum tours were FABULOUS. Our guides were the best we've ever had any where in the world. I would not hesitate to book additional tours with this company. I loved being in a small group: 10 for the Vatican and 8 for the Coliseum.

28/10/2012 - Suzanne Chee (Australia)
We loved our guide Francesca, she was very entertaining and funny. She has beautiful green eyes which were very engaging. It was incredible and we are exhausted now! Thank you Rome Walks. Suzanne and David

15/10/2012 - Chuck and Marge Karr (United States)
We did the Vatican tour and Coliseum tour with Rome Walks on 10-8 and 10-9. Marina was our guide for the Vatican and she was just wonderful. We would not have learned anywhere near as much as we did without her. She was a walking history book!! Our tour of the Coliseum was with Paul who was extremely knowledgable about every aspect of Palatine hill and the coliseum itself. He was very detailed and had answers all our questions. The best part of both tours was the small group size and preferred entrance into the venues. The directions to meet both guides were very accurate and easy to follow as well. We would definitely recommend Rome Walks to anyone planning a trip to Rome. As a suggestion for future tours, the use of headsets would have helped greatly as it was sometimes difficult to hear our guides when we were in crowded areas with other groups at the same time. But, for the best and most informative way to see the main sights of Rome, Rome Walks is the way to go!! Thanks for a wonderful time. Ciao. Marge & Chuck

On Friday September 28, 2012 our group of 6 booked a Twilight Walk in Rome with you on short notice. We just wanted to let you that the guide you sent us, Richie, was wonderful. He took us to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps as well as stopping off many times in between to point out a church, statute or landmark and tell us something interesting about it. He not only knew his history but he was very enthusiastic about the various sites which made the whole "walk" that much more fun and interesting for us. We would definitely recommend the tour and Richie! Thanks to everyone.

We had just an incredible experience on our Vatican semi private tour. We took the tour on Wed July 18, 2012. Unfortunately our wonderful guides name escapes me nearly three weeks later. She was absolutely wonderful. By far the best of our tours on our 10 day Italy vacation. She was knowledge, eloquent, personable, and provided us with a wonderful experience. Watching other groups of 30, 40, or even 50 people walking around with headsets made me appreciate this tour even more. For a comparable price we had a guide for only 8 of us. She tailored the tour to out interests and requests. She answered all of our questions comprehensively face to face as opposed to a rehearsed impersonal speech through a headset. Her pacing and selection of items and exhibits to look at was perfect. At the end she was gracious enough to recommend a great local lunch spot that she frequents that turned out to be one of our best meals of the trip. Overall we had a fantastic experience that we would highly recommend to anyone!

19/05/2012 - Steve Allen (United States)
Dear Rome Walks, Unfortunately we have had to return to work. Just wanted to let you know that Michael, would led our tour of the Vatican, was excellent. His knowledge and enthusiasm made the tour outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend your company. Steve

We LOVED every minute of our 3 tours with Rome Walks. They were the highlight of our Roma visit. We also loved the Umbrian countryside, the hiking, food, sightseeing, etc...and had a fabulous time there. Guen is a gifted tour guide...the tour was so personal, fascinating and fun. She was GREAT--fantastico! And Sunday, our Coliseum guide was Francesca who was terrific as well. There were only 4 of us and it was so personal, informative and wonderful. Both guides were prompt, helpful and easy to be around...and your little surprise picnic was really special, too. GRAZIE! We loved Italy and will definitely recommend Rome Walks to whomever we can convince to travel to Italy! thanks again... Ciao! Dori and Mark

Justin was absolutely terrific. Rome wouldn't have been the same without him. He kept both young and old (including an 8 and 10 year old) absolutely entranced for more than 3 hours with his stories which brought the history of Rome to life for all of us. We did both the Colisseum and Vatican tours. Best investment we could have made to make this a rich and memorable experience for all of us. Thank you!

17/04/2012 - R and J (United Kingdom)
Please pass on our thanks to Julia for making our trip to Rome such a success. Her unstinting enthusiasm and knowledge made all the difference. She was fantastic!

Hello Rome Walks! Our group of 30 (23 high school students & 7 adults) just got settled back at home after our whirlwind trip last week. I wanted to sing the praises of our two excellent tour guides, Francesca & Agnes. (The system of using the headphones worked really well and helped us all to hear them even in crowded places.) We had Francesca for our tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and The Roman Forum. Then later that same day, she led our evening tour of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps. She was utterly delightful. She was interesting, witty, and very informative. We all loved her and couldn't have been more pleased with the tours. She had an infectious enthusiasm for the information she was telling us, which made everything seem fresh, and made the people and places she described come to life. I could see the marble floors shining, hear the clash of the gladiators, and imagine Bernini at work on his sculptures. The next day we had Agnes as our guide for The Vatican. She was wonderful, informative, and funny too. I loved her sense of humor, and learned things they did not teach in art history. The next time I am in Rome (and I will be back because I tossed my coin into the Trevi Fountain), I will absolutely hire Rome Walks again--and ask for Francesca and Agnes! P.S. We had a tour in Pompeii later in the week, and were so disappointed with our tour guide there after being exposed to your superlative guides.

Hi to all at Rome Walks, We just want to let you know how much we enjoyed our trip to Rome, and how much Rome Walks enhanced our experience. An operation such as yours relies critically on the personalities of your guides; and the two guides who conducted our tours - Marlé on the Vatican walk and Daniela in the ancient city & Colosseum - were both extremely well-informed, highly professional and delightful company. Please pass on our thanks and best wishes to both of them. Long may Rome Walks continue to do what you’re good at – bringing the Eternal City to life in a vital and entertaining way.

Hi Annie and Rome Walks Team, Sorry for the delay but we have been so busy since we got home from our AMAZING vacation. To be honest, what added to how special our trip was were the tours led by Antonella and Mayo. We had Antonella for the Colosseum tour. To quote my wife, "I wish Antonella was my history teacher growing up because she is so good a explaining things in a fun and interesting way." She was just fantastic. My wife is pregnant and Antonella made sure that she was always on the shade, close to a restroom and feeling ok. We learned so much. I wouldn't change a thing. Mayo was great as well. We were so fortunate to have a private tour with Mayo. His knowledge of the Vatican is incredible. Let me know if there is a website that I can also leave a positive review on such as tripadivisor or Rick Steves. We just had such a wonderful experience, we hope others use your company as well. Thanks again. Maxx

The walk we took in Rome last year in February was fabulous. Our guide was filled with endless facts and with this my 10 year old daughters enjoyed the walk as much as their Mom and Grandmom! I will absolutely recommend this to anyone headed to Italy. Many thanks again for the most wonderful tour!

Hello - my wife and I and another couple toured Rome in early September and used Rome Walks twice and enjoyed it very much. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and the tours are so informative that I maintain they make the trip - without them how would you know what you're looking at? Or more importantly, make sure that you see what is actually worth seeing? And because the groups are so small, you get all of your questions answered and actually are able to have a real dialogue on the significance of the artefacts. Although all 3 of our guides (one in Florence as well) were terrific, we must single out the lovely and loquacious Marlie as she really stood out. She was marvellous; we intend to spend many evenings this winter recalling the stories and tales that she told us during our short time together. She was great and comes with our highest recommendation.

We arranged for a Twilight Tour and met Justin at the agreed time. The walk was superb just like our guide and the time flew by - Rome is such an interesting place. We can thoroughly recommend the Twilight tour and it was one of the highlights of a memorable trip to Venice and Rome. We intend to use Rome walks again. Do yourself a favour and book a tour!

10/09/2011 - Debbie Garcia (United States)
My husband and I were on our Honeymoon last week and only had two days in Rome. We heard about the twilight walk from a friend and decided to do it. Justin was our tour guide and he was wonderful. Carlos and I were the only ones on the tour and Justin not only gave us in depth information that we did not know but knew how to navigate the streets so perfectly that the 2 hours were pleasant and informative. He also took pictures of us at the Trevi Fountain and numerous other places that we would not have been able to get on our own. Thank you Justin!

12/08/2011 - Ruth and Joe Ricci (Canada)
Just returned from Rome and did the Vatican City and Museum Tour and Ancient City walk. Both tours were invaluable. Our guides were both incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and very receptive to all kinds of questions. Would definitely recommend any of your tours and take them again and again!

My wife and I were on our honeymoon and decided to book a VIP Vatican Tour. Justin was our guide and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. He was extremely knowledgeable and tailored the tour to us. Rome Walks, and especially Justin, come highly recommended from this honeymoon couple!

07/08/2011 - . Karen Wicker Michael (United States)
I arranged for a Vatican tour through Rome Walks for 6 people, 3 were "iffy" because of the price and my husband likes to "self-tour". I am glad to say that Justin did such a great job that we all would have booked more tours if we had more time in Rome!!! Well worth the money and Justin is excellent!!!!

03/08/2011 - The Daye Family Pittsburgh, Pa (United States)
We just completed a wonderful day at the Vatican with tour guide Justin. He was extremely informed and full of very interesting and quite frankly in depth knowledge that we had not expected on art, history and philosphy of ancient Rome. He was a in a word excellent. We are now looking to see what else we can fit into our schedule with him.

27/07/2011 - Judith Hodgson (United Kingdom)
We spent a fantastic morning with Sara walking through history at the Forum, Palatine Hill and the Colosseum. She talks with such enthusiasm, interest and humour - a really great guide. Thank you

Gregory was our tour guide on June 22,2011. He made our one day to explore Rome the highlight of our trip. He was incredible. Not only did he describe in detail everything in the Vatican and Rome, he also informed us of things to see on the rest of our trip in Florence and Greece and explained how they related to what we were seeing in Rome. He was by far the best guide we had on our 2 week vacation. We highly recommend Rome Walks to anyone wanting a guided tour of the city.

30/04/2011 - Perry Hoskins (United States)
I hired Rome Walks for a 4 hour private tour of the Vatican. Justin was our tour guide. He is incredibly knowledgable, courteous, explains things in clear English. Justin is a perfect match for anyone from the US or Canada. Thanks to Justin at Rome Walks we had the best tour of the Vatican imaginable.

23/02/2011 - Kim Kelley (United States)
Cannot say enough wonderful things about Janet! She guided us through the Vatican and Ancient Rome, and we enjoyed every minute. She is extremely knowledgable about art and history. A delightful, charming person! Thank you, Janet, for making our visit to Rome even more fabulous!

07/02/2011 - Anthony Roberts (United States)
On January the 5th you arranged a tour for my wife and me of the Forum area. You may recall that my wife was ill and I was the only person to show up for that tour. Nonetheless your tour guide (whose name I cannot recall) treated me to one of the most interesting and delightful experiences of our trip. I am contacting for two reasons. First to thank you and your company for a wonderful experience. I also learned that my tour guide (whose name I cannot recall, and which I have misplaced) is from Portland, OR my home. She had indicated that she would be visiting Portland and agreed that my wife and I would love to meet up with her. Could you please let her know that we would love for her to contact us!

04/08/2010 - Michael (United States)
Took your Vatican walk on Wednesday July 21th with Anna - she was superb. She was well versed on the museum; was open & friendly; took questions and most of all took her time with us often just giving a few minutes to just take it all in. Highly recommended.

06/06/2010 - Mrs Hansen (United Kingdom)
We booked the Vatican Tour and Sara was our guide. We could not have asked for a friendlier, more knowlegeable guide. She made the richness of the Vatican and St Peter's come alive for us. She's a treasure. We had a great day. Whatever you are paying her, it's not enough!

25/05/2010 - Harvey & Sharron Bjork (Norway)
We have now returned home from a delightful vacation and one of the highlights was the your tour of the Vatican on Monday, May 17, 2010. . Despite horrendous crowds, and some rain, your guide, Inger provided a thorough and knowledgeable tour. We couldn't believe that one person can possess so much history knowledge and information as she did. She maneuvered us around that extreme foot traffic, and she must have been exhausted at the end of the tour although she didn't show it. We are very happy that we sought out Rome Walks.

23/05/2010 - John and Bonnita ayne (United States)
We were delighted to have all three of your fine tours while we were in Rome. All our guides were very professional and knowledgeable. In addition they were pleasant and patient with us. We will be recommending your special services to everyone travelling to Rome. Thanks for making our Rome experience extraordinary! Bonnita and John Payne

11/05/2010 - Julie Ford (United States)
What a great experience to be in Rome and to have Guen as our private tour guide. She is very informative and passionate about Rome and her "job". All details in booking and tour went flawlessly. I would recommend Rome Walks to anyone.

23/03/2010 - Sue Fogarty (United States)
We had an incredible day with Luca in Orvieto!!! A charming host and very friendly and knowledgable. It was a very comfortable, interesting, fun day for all of us! Would definitely recommend this Etruscan walk to anyone and Luca is a treasure. Thanks for a wonderful day outside of the bustle of Rome.

15/03/2010 - Grace Bardsley (United States)
Our tour of the Vatican on Wednesday March 10, 2010 with tour guide Guen was fantastic. Guen set the historical stage for us and gave us just the right amount of information about what we were seeing without overwhelming us. Her guidance enriched the experience for us making it even more of a highlight of our trip.

04/02/2010 - Cindy Gold (United States)
Dear Rome Walks, My friend and I took 2 tours with Guen a few weeks ago. She was amazing. She has so much knowledge stored in her head, and helped us to see just about everything in the 14 hours we had in Rome. She made our trip!

02/12/2009 - Carl and Susan Dolinka (United States)
We did the Colosseum and Vatican tours with Agnes on October 19 and 20, 2009. She was an outstanding guide and made these attractions most memorable. The only drawback was when we went into St. Peters Church. A mass was about to begin and Agnes was not permitted to take the 5 of us on a guided tour. Instead she briefly gave us some history outside the church. Other than that, the tours were very good and the group size was perfect.

29/11/2009 - Karin (United States)
We took two tours while in Rome: the Ancient World tour and the Vatican City tour. Gwen was our fantastic guide both days. She even managed to keep our 16 year old son enthralled throughout. We gained a much deeper appreciation of what we were seeing because of Gwen's explanations and enthusiasm. The decision to try out RomeWalks was one of the best traveling decisions I have ever made, and we will definitely book more tours in the future and recommend this organization. Thank you!

30/10/2009 - Stan Furce (United States)
Not to take a tour is to miss most of what you will see. The RomeWalks guides we had for two tours in mid October were incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic and personable. Take the RomeWalks tour!

24/10/2009 - Jennifer Zuleger & Marc Tozzi (United States)
Rome Walks you were simply amazing. Julia took us on a tour to the Colosseum/Forum on Sept 7th and it was quite honestly one of my top 3 highlights from a 13 day trip. You were fascinating to listen to and I can't imagine that a better guide exists anywhere - in knowledge, personality, charisma or professionalism (I was the group with the "I've never heard of the aquaducts"/won't be quiet/bad joke guy from Florida & the patience you showed was unbelievable). Our hotel had booked us a Vatican tour the next day with a different company and the whole time I was regretting that we hadn't cancelled it and booked one with you. I will recommend you to anyone I know that travels to Italy and WHEN I go back (please God, let it be soon), I will definitely take another tour with you. We wish you the best, Marc & Jennifer

28/09/2009 - Camille Ward (United States)
My husband and I just returned from visiting Italy and were fortunate enough to have two tours with RomeWalks. We thoroughly enjoyed both tours. Both guides were very patient with all our questions and their passion for art and history were evident. I would highly recommend these tours to anyone who is visiting Rome. Thank you.

Dear Annie We wanted to thank you for a wonderful tour. It was one of the most informative and interesting tour we have ever taken.

12/08/2009 - Jeanne and Maria Givens (United States)
2 weeks ago we had a Vatican tour with Julia. I really enjoy art and with Julia's background in Italian art history we got a great, in-depth tour of the Vatican. We didn't look at it all, but rather focused on a few of the important pieces in the Vatican's vast collection. Raphael and Michelangelo's work meant so much more with Julia's expertise and guidance. Good job and would recommend Romewalks and Julia to all. Jeanne and Maria Seattle, Washington

01/07/2009 - Jon Neuhs, US (Italy)
Sunday afternoon, June 21 my wife and I had the good fortune of doing the Peter and Paul walk. The guide provided excellent insight into the history of the early church and the spread of the Christian gospel. I would highly recommend this walk for any one who desires an understanding of early Christians and their witness in ancient Rome. christian

Annie, I want to thank you for connecting us with Anton. He is an incredible guide - knowledgeable, passionate and interesting. The depth and breadth of his knowledge was substantial and the information he shared was interesting and relevant. It became clear quickly that he loves the art and history he was sharing with us and his enthusiasm enhanced our experience. Thanks again - we’ll refer our friends on to you. Daryl

26/06/2009 - Steve and Diane Bridges (United States)
We were recently in Rome and had the most enjoyable tours with Gulia and Gwen. They are both so knowledgeable and gave us a perspective of Ancient Rome and the Vatican that we not have otherwise had. Thank you so much. We highly recommend RomeWalks! Steve and Diane

25/06/2009 - Aimee Bollinger (United States)
We had 3 lovely Rome Walks tours on our trip to Rome. Agnes did a fabulous job making the Vatican a special visit. She gave us great information, answered all our questions, and even gave us a glimpse of the Pope! Our next tour was with Gwen. On a lovely, information filled tour of the major sites, Gwen led us to the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps. Justin picked us up at our hotel and took us outside of Rome to see the Appian Way and the Christian Catacombs. He provided us with a slice of Roman history, Christian history, and even took us to the church of Santa Croce in Jerusalem to see the relics of the cross where Jesus was crucified. This trip will be in our minds and hearts forever!

We were recently in Rome and were privileged to participate in the Coliseum and Vatican walks. Gwen (coliseum and forum) and Julia (Vatican) passionately shared their knowledge of history and art with us. I highly recommend these two personable and enthusiastic guides.

We visited Rome for the first time 5/3/09 as one of the ports of call on a 10-day Mediterranean cruise. After a few lackluster cruise-sponsored tours, our group of nine decided to book a private tour with your company as our way to experience Rome. We couldn't be more pleased with our decision. Our guide took us on an all day tour of the city that blew us away. His passion for the political, social and architectural history of the City was infectuous. Our agenda was packed and we could't believe how much of the City we were able to see in just a 6-7 hour period. The descriptions of the Forum, Pantheon, Vatican, Colisseum, etc. were entertaining and provided context that will stick with us for a long time to come. This tour was definitely the highlight of our entire vacation and has fueled a desire to return to Rome as soon as we can. Thanks to your company for this tremendous experience!

26/04/2009 - Marty Brooks (United States)
Julia, Julia, Julia. We had two wonderful tours of Rome with Julia who made Ancient Rome and the Vatican come to life! A tour with Romewalks is a must.

We just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our tour. He was knowledgeable, wonderfully insightful and just a great compliment to the wonderful and awe-inspiring time we and our friends had touring the magnificent Vatican. We would recommend him to anyone who wants to learn about history.

20/03/2009 - Ellen & Paul Johnson (United States)
Just returning from our week in Rome. The most memorable time might very well be the time we spent with your guide, (a Theologian) during our Sts. Peter & Paul walk. Passionate, wicked smart, insightful. His knowledge of the early centuries AD made the city come alive for us. Worth every Euro!

26/02/2009 - Margaret Laufman & Andrea Allmon (United States)
On our Feb. 18 tour of the Vatican...Julia did a great job! Many thanks to her for a tremendous tour! We emailed R. Steves' Website and will tell our friends about you.

Thank you for the wonderful tour of Rome! It was a last minute three-day side trip from Florence and you quickly and efficiently helped me put it together. Our guide was Julia who guided my husband and me through the Colosseum, Palentine Hill, Pantheon and directly onto the Twilight tour. She was absolutely fantastic!! Her knowledge of the sites and interaction was superior. We completed our tour at the Piazza Navano where she recommended the restaurant Osteria Dell'Amine for dinner. It was the best dinner we had during our entire trip to Italy. I will be recommending Rome Walks to all my friends and family.

30/10/2008 - Angela Poole (United States)
Before my trip to Italy, I spent days trying to book a tour of the Vatican and decide which company to choose. The Vatican was the one place in Rome that I wanted a detailed tour and to learn and see as much as I could. I was also responsible for 5 other friends so I wanted to be sure everyone would be happy with the choice I made. We could not have been happier with our tour guide, Lauren. Not only was she beautiful, she was lively and full of knowledge. We learned so much but did not feel overwhelmed. I was worried that some in our group would think it was too long of a tour but the time flew by and we all loved it. We even tried to set her up with my brother (who was on antohter Vatican tour that had 35 people and we only had 8) She had a great sense of humor to keep up with us. Thank you Rome walks - you were professional all the way from answering all my emails to the great tour. I have already recommended you to some December travelers.

27/10/2008 - Wayne (United States)
Thank you for making our trip to Rome so informative and easy. We were overwhelmed by all that there was to see in this city. Your guides showed us places that we would never have understood without their instruction. Their knowledge of the city was amazing and their english was perfect! Thanks again!!

25/10/2008 - Pamela Walencewicz (United States)
Dear Annie, I want to thank you for the excellent tour I had of the Vatican. Julia was a FANTASTIC guide! She is very knowledgeable about the art, history, culture, etc. of Italy and the Vatican and spiced up the tour with her animation and humor. The hours passed very quickly. Julia was also very patient with our group and gave THE BEST dinner recommendation for Osteria Dell'Anime. I went and it was brilliant! The best meal during my entire stay. And given that all the food in Italy tasted far better than that from the states, I didn't think it could get any better until I tasted the fiochetti. I am so happy that I found your information in my Rick Steve's guidebook (Italy 2008). I will definitely recommend your tours to others and would take another one the next time I travel. Grazie mille for the excellent value & service!

25/10/2008 - Carol Brooker (United States)
Hello Julia! Thank you for our best experience in Rome! We did the Forum and Colosseum tour and it was the best money spent in Rome. The tours are a must for anyone visiting the city!

23/10/2008 - Ginny Sofen (United States)
Dear Annie, Before I forget that I ever went on a vacation to Rome and spent the loveliest anniversary ever with your wonderful guide, Luca, in Orvieto. I wanted to pass along the name of the guide we used in Florence. We went there at the very last minute and by chance, Luca put us in touch with a young woman named Giulia, who is a licensed guide. She met us at the train station, and gave us a brilliant half day tour of the city. She had even gone the extra mile and tried to get us phone reservations at the Uffizi and Acadamia that morning, but both were full. Undeterred, we went to the Acadamia where she was able to talk us in so we could see the statue of David. She gave us ideas on places to eat and where we might find certain items we were looking for. She is young and cute (her husband is also a licensed guide who speaks Turkish) and she is very knowledgeable and likable. Should your business expand to Florence, I just wanted to pass her email along.

22/10/2008 - Mary Beth Ryabik (United Kingdom)
Dear Rome Walks, I apologize for sending this email so late but I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our tour guide Gwen. She gave us the most wonderful tour of the Vatican and Vatican Museum on June 18, 2008. I was truly amazed by the amount of information she shared with us and her tour was truly the highlight of our trip to Rome. Thank you for such an awesome tour and please send Gwen our praises for a phenomenal experience. Sincerely

We just got back from Italy and wanted to thank Julia who was awesome. We enjoyed our three tours with your company. Your guides are wonderful and love what they do. Also like the fact that your groups are small. Will definitely recommend your company and also hope to be back in Italy soon and enjoy more of your tours.

15/10/2008 - Nancy Neff (United States)
My husband and I recently visited Rome and were very fortunate to have Julia on all three of our scheduled walks: Vatican, Colosseum and Twilight Rome. Julia was simply fantastic. She shared her wonderful wealth of knowledge with us in a very engaging, exciting and memorable way. I would highly recommend any of these tours to anyone planning a visit to Rome.

Dear Annie, 3 of us decided to spend our last day in Italy taking the Etruscan Countryside visit. Was a great day and our young guide (Andrea), was patient and answered all of our questions. Our lunch was delicious and I hadn't not ever tried WILD BOAR! Perfect! Highly recommend this trip!

Hi Annie, Just to let you know I am now home in Western Australia and would like to thank you and your team for my 4 wonderful walking tours I had when in Rome. Julia, Gregory, Justin and Carla were just fantastic. Special thanks to Justin who took me to the Catacombs and further, in our quest for history lessons, it was an amazing journey. I'll be contacting Tuscany Tours in Italy to let them know of my experiences with your company. Best wishes Margaret

Hi Annie, My partner Brian and our daughter Maura (8yrs old) took the private Early Christian tour on (I think) Aug. 6 with Justin. It was such a great tour for our family. I really appreciated your willingness to tweak the tour to include the Cappuchin Crypt for our daughter. She's really into bones and relics and all that Indiana Jones type stuff. We wanted to include that for her but also have it presented in a respectful manner. Justin was great at doing this for us. He really tied in the thrills-n-chills type stuff with the spiritual and historic aspects of why the monks would compile the bones this way, and then wove this thread through the entire tour. The whole tour was very spiritual for our family. It was just amazing seeing the relics of the true cross and Maura was fascinated by the images of the shroud of Jesus. We also loved St. Clemente. What a great site to show the many layers of history. And the dome was amazing, and Justin's explanation of the spiritual aspects of the motifs in the art was very satisfying. This was an educational and spiritual experience that I'm very grateful that my family had. Thanks so much!

24/08/2008 - Lisa Green (United States)
Took two tours with Julia, to the Coliseum and the Vatican. She was excellent, managing to keep my teenagers enthralled - no small feat. It was well worth the money. We appreciated how knowledgeable and personable she was and also the small size of the group. We will recommend you to everyone!

10/08/2008 - Florence and Ken, Debbie and Rob (United States)
Justin took us on a wonderful tour of the Vatican. His extensive knowledge as well as his delivery of information made this visit extraordinary. Thanks so much to Justin for his wonderful tour.

On 24 July we took the 'Colosseum & Ancient City Walk' with Guen. Rome is an amazing city and really must be taken in with a knowledgeable tour guide. We were very happy with Guen, not only was she knowledgeable but she provided some moments of entertainment like reciting Mark Anthony's speech from William Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" when we were at the burial place of Julius Caesar. The Forum was the highlight of the tour mainly because Guen was able to bring it to life with vivid descriptions of buildings, architecture and activities that took place there. Thanks RomeWalks and especially Guen for making our day in Rome a fantastic experience!

30/07/2008 - Mary FitzGibbons (United States)
My daughter and I had only one day to see Rome, so we did the Colosseum/Forum walk. Our fabulous, friendly guide was Guen. She was very knowledgeable in both the Art and History of Rome. Guen's explanations brought history to if we were right there with the ancient Romans. We loved every minute of the tour, and only wished that we had more time to spend touring with Guen. I highly recommend Guen and Rome Walks to anyone visiting Rome. My daughter and I asked Guen to recommend a good place for pizza, and it was the best pizza ever! Thanks Guen we really enjoyed our tour in Rome..

30/07/2008 - Leon Gokhman & Michele Herrera (United States)
We really wanted to thank Julia for the awesome experience! We were very fortunate to have her for 3 of our tours - Vatican City, Night Walk, and Ancient City. The latter turned out to be a private tour. I am already a history fan but she brought so much more detail to things that I never knew of. We will make sure to recommend Julia and Rome Walks to all our friends.

27/07/2008 - Hunter Harwood (United States)
We took the Vatican City tour with the tourguide Gwen on July 23. I would like to tell you that she was FANTASTIC!!! This was one of the best tours I've ever taken. Her knowledge, passion for the history, enthusiasm and great sense of humor made this a fun experience. It was one of the highlights of our trip and I wholeheartedly recommend Rome Walks, and Gwen to any and everyone I speak to that plans to visit Rome. Again, Gwen was terrific and the tour was a great experience.

20/07/2008 - Kelly Parkes (Australia)
Dear Rome Walks My father and I joined Julia on Friday July 18 for her 1 pm walk of the Vatican. We wanted to thank you and her, for such a great day. It was my father's birthday and this was the highlight of his day. Julia's explanations of the art and the history were fabulous. We just wanted to let her know that we really appreciated her enthusiasm and how much she shared with us. It made seeing the everything so much more interesting and we feel like we know alot more about Rome now! Thanks again, we will recommend you to all our friends on their visits to Italy.

17/07/2008 - Pam Marino (United States)
My husband, three adult children and myself had a fabulous tour of the Vatican on June courtesy of Rome Walks! The guide was very knowledgeable and did a terrific job of explaining the history and art. The tour was one of the most memorable events of our entire vacation. Fortunately we took the tour at the start of our trip, because from what we learned from your guide, we were able to understand and enjoy many of the places we visited over our two weeks in Italy. We also took a tour from Gregory of the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere, which was also excellent. I will always recommend Rome Walks to friends, and will hopefully return one day to take more tours! Thank you very much.

14/07/2008 - Ed and Kathy Kulp (United States)
6/30/08 We were thoroughly impressed with the tour we had of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's. Our guide was Justin and he was wonderful. He gave us an incredible lesson in art history, helping us understand what we were seeing and in what context the works were done. He was so knowledgeable and he shared that knowledge in a very personable way. We could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Justin, for an afternoon we will never forget. We feel very fortunate that you were our guide! Many thanks, Ed and Kathy, Colorado

Rome Walks was recommended to us by a friend. I can't say enough about our experience. Julia was our guide for a tour of the Vatican on July 2, 2008. She was phenomenal. From the history overview to the wonderful pizza we experienced, It was obvious she is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. This passion was transferred to our kids who now say that the Vatican tour was their favorite and most memorable part of the trip. It was also a pleasure to deal with Annie in the planning of our tour. We did not book until the night before and she was very accommodating. I would recommend your company to anyone. Our only regret is that we did not use your services for our time at the Colosseum and Forum. Thank you again to your company and to Julia for one of the most memorable times of our vacation. I read about Rome Walks in Rick Steves' Italy 2008 long before arriving in Rome with my wife and our two sons on July 9. I visited your Web site on several occasions and, before we left the U.S., printed out two or three tours I was hoping we could take. Late that afternoon, I called Rome Walks and spoke to Annie who was magnificent. If I recall correctly, it was about 5:00 p.m., when I called and I suspected she was getting ready to close for the day. But Annie took the time to talk to me, answer questions, and offered assurances that there would be no problem accommodating the four of us for a tour the next day, July 10, of the Coliseum, Palatine Hill, and nearby areas. Our family was glad we took the tour. Our guide, Carla, was magnificent. She made history come alive pointing out what we were seeing every step of the way. Her historical knowledge, attention to detail, the ability to answer questions raised by members of the group (as well as one of our sons who has been fascinated with mythology for a long time, and) frequent breaks allowing us to savor what we were seeing, left indelible impressions on us. They were a major reason that we booked a second tour, the next day, of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's. Julia, who conducted the July 11 tour, was equally magnificent. During the tour she frequently paused to describe and comment on many not so obvious facts about some of the tapestries, paintings, and sculptures we were seeing. This was information/knowledge that we wouldn't have picked up anywhere else. All of us were impressed with how she adroitly positioned herself to ward off a panhandler as she was talking to us about the early history of the Vatican during the first 10 or 15 minutes of her comments. On another occasion, she magnificently moved us into position at one point in the Vatican Museum so we could also get a look at a painting that an Asian guide was taking way too long to describe to a much bigger tour group. On a third occasion, she also knew some others who hadn't paid for the tour were listening to what she was saying. But she allowed them to ask a question before she diplomatically saying she had to continue moving along with us. She has a lot of what we call "street smarts" here in the U.S. If there was one negative, however, it was her opening remarks. They were about 40 minutes...way too long. If she could find a way to cut the length of her comments by 10 or 15 minutes that would give groups in the future a little more time to marvel at what they are seeing as they tour these historic sites. Even more gratifying was the small size of the groups. Instead of 30 or more that one sees in typical tour groups, Rome Walks groups were very small in number. That allowed everyone to ask frequent questions of the tour guide as well as the opportunity to talk to other members of the group. The Rome Walks tours were a major highlight of our four days in Rome. Julia and Carla know their history, their art, and so much more. As I told Julia after the tour, "Thank you for all the studying you did when you were in college. You probably didn't know it at the time, but it paid off. You used what you learned and nicely conveyed that to us during our tour." Yes, we paid more for these tours, a premium that was exacerbated by the dollar/euro relationship. But it was worth it. I have mentioned Rome Walks to our travel agent and will not hesitate to recommend Rome Walks to friends who might be considering traveling to Rome in the future. Thanks, Carla and Julia for some very wonderful memories of the first and only time we will be in Rome.

Grazie to Julia for an enlightening as well as entertaining Vatican City tour on 21 June, 2008. She helped bring the art, architecture, and history to life for us. What a memorable experience!

Our guide through the Vatican Julia on June 21, 2008 was terrific! She was knowledgeable, entertaining and funny. It was a great experience.. Thanks.

Just a quick note to say thank you for what turned out to be an amazing time on your guided tours. We were lucky enough to be able to have time to do both the Vatican tour and Colosseum and Forum tour. Your tour guides, Maria Grazia and Claudia, have such great passion and knowledge about the history of there tours that it makes for an extremely enjoyable experience for all. The guides we had spoke excellent english and were always happy to answer any questions put to them. We will certainly be recommending your company to any one thinking of visiting Rome. Many thanks Russell and Debi Gold Coast Australia

Dear Rome Walks, Our tour guide was Julia and she was fantastic! We especially enjoyed her ability to take the stance/posture of the sculptures while explaining to us the period in which the art was created. Her use of quotes from Michelangelo brought his works to life. Her depth of knowledge was certainly demonstrated during our tour. Our tour was on Wednesday, which us the opportunity to see the Pope for a few minutes and then proceeded with the tour. The length of the tour was just right and the content was excellent in that we were directed to the key points of interest.

My husband and I, plus another couple had the pleasure of having Julia as our tour guide for the Vatican on Saturday, June 7th. She was fabulous!!! She was the best tour guide we had on our entire trip to Italy. She was very engaging and entertaining and very knowledgeable. She made our whole experience stellar! At the end of the tour, she even recommended a restaurant for us to go to that evening. It ended up being one of the best restaurants we ate at in Rome. She was fabulous! We can’t say enough nice things about her. She really made our trip to the Vatican worthwhile and very interesting. She is what all tour guides should strive to be like. Please pass along our compliments to Julia! Thank you for a great tour!

Just a quick note to say thank you to Justin for his tour of the Colosseum and the ancient city. Justin's knowledge of ancient Rome, not just the historical, but also the social and the political context, really made the tour, and the city, come to life. How someone could know so much information was just unbelieveable! Many thanks.

I took 2 walks while in Rome March 29 & 30th. The Sunset walk with Greg was just the best tour I have ever taken. Greg is so very personable and knows just about everything about Rome and it's history and its buildings. I learned so much during those 2 hours. The next day I did the Jewish Ghetto again, my guide was Greg. We covered so much ground in 3 hours but it seemed to go by so quickly since he made it so much fun as well as educational. I will most definitely book another tour with you when I return to Rome and, in the meantime, will recommend your tours to everyone. Thank you so much.

23/03/2008 - Tom, Stephanie & Claire Milburn (United States)
We read about Rome Walks! in Rick Steves’ book before our trip to Italy; however, we ended up booking a tour of the Vatican City with Rome Walks! on Tuesday for the following Thursday (our last day in Rome). And you were able to fit us in! The strategic timing of the tour was perfect so that while we probably couldn’t avoid crowds at the Vatican entirely, we were able to navigate the place easily and yet were never rushed, and still got to see what was important to us (and things we didn’t realize were important to us;) ). Greg was a fantastic and interesting tour guide. I actually pitied the other visitors who weren’t in our group (boring!). We had no idea that we would learn so much without even knowing it. Greg brought the history to life and his enthusiasm about the art really caught on. I cannot imagine seeing the Vatican without such a knowledgeable guide who made seeing such a huge and insurmountable place fun, fascinating and so memorable.

23/03/2008 - Thomas O'Connor (United States)
I had a great tour of the Vatican with Justin on March 20. He took the time to thoroughly explain the high points of the Museum and Basilica, and had the ready knowledge to navigate questions. I recommend this tour to all visitors.

18/03/2008 - John and Lindsey (United States)
We did a walking tour through Rome with Justin from Toronto. From the start it was as interesting as it was informative. Justin had an great depth to his knowledge and clearly enjoyed subject of both Roman and Catholic history himself. He took us to some places we would never have gone ourselves and gave great information with regards to both the origins and the meaning of the places we visited. As a former college history student I was greatly impressed the Justin didn't just gloss over the basics, but made it interesting while providing detail. I would recommend taking a tour with him to anyone visiting Rome. Thanks!

Thanks to Julia for a great tour of the Vatican. She was informative and fun! Also, thank you for the all the staff who accomadated us on such short notice.

Our Rome Walks tours were a great experience for my friend, Mom, and I. We had Julia guiding us both times, and greatly her enjoyed her (usually) funny jokes, knowledge of the sites and history, and energetic character. We will certainly be recommending Rome Walks to all friends traveling to Rome in the future. Thanks so much! P.S. Julia - Sarah and I made it home just fine, we lived quite close. It was great seeing you again, even at that point, and I really appreciate your caring. Thanks again.

I would like to thank you for making my 50th birthday truely memorable. Greg's humor and historical insightfulness made the Vatican tour come alive.

12/02/2008 - John & Andrea (United Kingdom)
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Coliseum and Palatine/Forum and learnt a great deal. We would like to say a big thank you to Julia for her wonderful knowledge, sense of humour and passion for Roman history. Also please thank her for her restaurant recommendation - excellent choice. Highly recommended.

I just wanted to say that Greg is an excellent guide! I was down in Rome with my 7 year old and my parents late Nov. 2007. We really enjoyed both tours we took of the Ancient City and the Vatican. My young daughter loved the history and that we had plenty of time to take pictures. Greg was absolutely wonderful, and never made us feel rushed through any of the areas. In fact we were there far longer than the tour was estimated to take. It was extremely memorable. Being stationed here in Italy, all our friends eventually make their way down to Rome and we refer them all to RomeWalks! Thank you!!

10/02/2008 - Jeff & Kandice Tjebkes (United States)
We just completed three tours with Greg with Rome Walks tours. Greg is a fantastic guide and teacher. We both learned so much from Greg about the history of Rome, art, architecture, and religion, among other things. Our three tours (Twilight Rome, Vatican, and Colosseum/Forum) were all unique except that Greg was an expert in the subject matter in each of the tours. For us the pace of the tours was perfect. It was hard for us to select a walking tour company before traveling to Rome, but I know now that our choice was a good one, Rome Walks is an excellent choice.

16/01/2008 - Rob & Carol Humphreys (Australia)
Annie, we loved the walks and also were very appreciative of Julia's knowledge, her obvious enthusiasm and her sense of humour. She brought Rome alive for us, and we will forever think of Roman history in a different light. We would recommend your organisation to anyone visiting Rome, and hope to visit again someday not too far away.

07/01/2008 - Chris Pitre (Canada)
Your tours were wonderful. Walking through the Roman Forum and Colosseum with Greg, seeing the Sistine Chapel and other Vatican sights with Lauren ... for us, your guides truly added to the wonders of Rome.

14/12/2007 - Jim Bedus (United States)
We would like to thank your service for the wonderful tours in Rome. Julia led us through the Vatican and Coliseum Walks with charm and personality that made the two days of tours a great learning experience and a lot of fun. On the third day we had the pleasure of being educated and entertained by Gregory who made the Early Christian and Catacombs Walk a most memorable day. We have been fortunate to have visited Rome on a number of occasions but this was the most fun trip yet do in large part to Julia and Gregory. We can't wait to return.

11/12/2007 - Melody Williams (United States)
We were in Rome November 18-21 and took 4 amazing tours with your company. Julia is extremely knowledgeable, and she has a passionate and entertaining way of expressing that knowledge. The small group size is wonderful and allows for questions from all in the group. Even though we created problems for morning the other couple in our group over slept, the next morning 3 of us in our group got lost on the way to the meeting place...Julia was there for us. I cannot thank you enough for your patience, and for the wonderful service you provide. I have told all of our friends about Rome Walks, and I have written a review on Please let Julia know how much we enjoyed her tours. Thank you.

I just wanted to say that your guides were both very informative and nice to be with. We had 5 children and they really kept our interest even when we got hot and tired from walking. Julia and Justin were wonderful!!

30/11/2007 - Kelly Grant (United States)
On November 15th we took a tour of the Coliseum and the ruins with Greg. My husband and I had a wonderful time and learned so many new things! This was our first day of the trip and for the remainder of the trip we were re-telling each other information we learned from Greg. Thank you so much!!

18/11/2007 - Martha Nelson (United States)
I wanted to thank you for the wonderful private tour we had with Greg on July 12th. I know that he felt he rushed us through some of the sites but it was perfect for us, given that we had never been to Rome and only had a few hours to see the city. Please convey our thanks to him and let him know that the information that he gave us at each of the sites was very helpful in understanding the historical significance of what we were seeing. Even though it was quick, we have retained much of the background which really enhanced our experience. I have recommended Rome Walks to many others as a result. Thank you.

26/10/2007 - Margaret (Peggy) Schipke (United States)
I would like to thank you for your wonderful service. We had to cancel our tour on 10/19 because of the downpour. My husband's walking cast was drenched. You allowed us to rebook and we had a wonderful tour with Julia, on 10/24. She was a wonderful tour guide! We thouroughly enjoyed it. She was knowledgeable, fun and did a wonderful job in crowd control while we were in line to go through security. Thank you so much.

24/10/2007 - Leigh Anne Farrell (United States)
What a fantastic tour! It was my second time on the exact same two tours with Greg, and I learned even more than before. I only wish he did the forum/coliseum tour as well; he is an additional reason we go back to Italy; entertainment with a Boston accent!Keep up the great work- I recommend Romewalks to all- including Rick Steves,From-mers and Foeders. Grazie! Will be back in '09!

23/10/2007 - Tom Wolfendale (United States)
Thank you again for the walks. I took three of them; two with Julia and one with Danielle. Both guides are excellent: articulate, knowledgeable and personable. I will report my very positive reactions to Rick Steves. Julia indicated that I could stay in touch through your office. Julia, Simone at Le Fric could not have been nicer and the food was wonderful and the art work curious and amusing. While I very much enjoyed the tuna fillet, if you like sushi, I recommend that you find a place that will sear grill sushimi grade tuna so that the inside is raw, but with that grade of tuna it melts in the mouth. Thanks again for great walks. Others that I spoke with from the groups share my feelings. Best to all

Dear Annie, Now that we are back in familiar London the magical four days we have had in Rome seem like something of a dream. That we enjoyed ourselves so much was very significantly a result of the three tours we took. Please pass thanks from me, Hilary and Isabel to Julia, Daniella and Greg for their friendly, knowledgeable, stimulating and enjoyable introductions. They made what is for them routine very fresh for us. And thanks to you for organising it so efficiently. I very much hope we will be able to come back for more before long. Warm regards, Andrew

Buon giorno Just a quick note to thank you for a fabulous tour! Our guide, Guen, was nothing short of sensational. Probably the best walking tour & definitely the best guide we have ever enjoyed. Thank you. We will definitely recommend you to any friends headed this way. Ciao

Dear Rome Walks: We just returned from our first trip to Italy, and Rome was our last but one of the most memorable destinations on our trip. We had Julia as our tour guide for the Colisseum and the Vatican. She was a delight! She is very well educated, qualified, friendly, and packed full of knowledge re: Italy and the sights we visted. We especially enjoyed the Colliseum walk as we were a small group, and the crowds were not bad, so we could hear and ask questions. She did a marvelous job at the Vatican as well, but unfortunately the crowds were way too much for comfortable viewing of the Sistine Chapel. Julia did a superb job filling us with facts while we had to stand in long lines and for a long time. Please let her know how much we enjoyed her as a guide.

10/10/2007 - Pieter Booth (United States)
Dear Rome Walks: My wife and I just returned from our first trip to Italy to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. One of the last things we did was a Vatican Museum walking tour in Rome with Lauren. The tour was well organized, on time, and delivered more than I could have ever expected. Lauren was amazingly knowledgeable about art, art history, and the "political" history of the Vatican and the Church itself. She crammed the entire four hours with tons of informative and fun facts delivered in a personable style. I couldn't have learned more from an intensive college level seminar series. Thanks for an unforgettable experience.

I went on the Vatican City tour with three friends this past week, and I think it was the best part of my Italian vacation. Greg was absolutely fabulous as a tour guide. We went on Wednesday, so we were able to see the Pope come out for the Papal Audience and then we started our tour. The size of the group was perfect, and we met some great people in our group. Greg provided a ton of information not only on Vatican City but also on Rome and the history of the city as well. He is very talented AND he enjoys art and history which makes the tour even better. Thank you to Rome Walks and especially to Greg for a great tour!

07/09/2007 - Kathy (United States)
Justin provided an amazing tour of the Vatican Museum. He had so much information to share with us (2 adults & 2 16 year olds). We all had a much greater appreciation of the sights we saw as a result of his expertise. Thank you.

Dear Rome Walks, We are now back from our trip to Italy. I thought I would write you and let you know how wonderful both our tours were. We did the Vatican tour with Dustin and the Coliseum/Forum with Maria. Both guides were excellent. Our groups were small, making it much easier to hear and follow the tour. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I would recommend Rome Walks to anyone I knew, who was headed to Rome. Thank you

18/08/2007 - AJ and Alyssa (United States)
We just returned from Rome, and wanted to give a HUGE thanks to Rome Walks. We took 3 tours, with Maria, Greg and Gwen. An extra special thanks to Greg for letting me know that Grillo = Cricket! :) And to Gwen, whose tour was excellent. We really enjoyed that the tours weren't very big, which allowed it to be a personable, and enjoyable learning experience!

To Rome Walks and Julia, Our party of five did a Rome Walks tour on July 7, 2007. This tour began with the Vatican Museums and culminated in St. Peter's Basilica. This tour was magnificent and lived up to expectations. Our guide Julia was very knowledgeable of art, architecture, history and language. Further Julia had an ability to communicate all this information in a clear and intertaining manner. In fact, she is quite witty. If we ever return to Rome I would want to do another tour with Julia as our guide. One thing we learned was that for us it would have been better to do this door later in the day. Over two hours in a very long line under a very hot sun was more than we had expected. But again, once we were through the line, we began a tour that was memorable. And again, thank you Julia. You were outstanding!

10/07/2007 - Debbie and Marty Gertler (United States)
We can't imagine having had a better tour of the Vatican than the one provided by Spring on Saturday, June 23. What a treat! She was knowledgeable, engaging and conveyed her own enthusiasm for the Vatican and its collections that could be felt by our entire family. I have already recommended Rome Walks and Spring in particular to others who I know will be traveling to Rome. And, we will definitely contact you again on our next visit to the Eternal City. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

We are just back from our vacation and just wanted to let you know that we very much enjoyed the tours we had of the Colosseum/Ancient City with Daniel & the Vatican with Fabio. They were both so knowledgable & good with our kids. It's so much more interesting when you know what you are looking at. Definitely a first class tour. Grazie.

10/06/2007 - Alan and Susan Woodyard (United States)
Thank your Rome Walks for making our short stay in Rome so eventful. Julietta, Our guide to the Vatican and St. Peter's, was terrifically knowledgable, insightful, patient, and efficient. The use of the 'whisperers' to hear the commentary in the crowds was a new and clever technological addition for us. Our second walk with Nicoletta of the Palantine Hill and the Colosseum was challenged but not defeated by rain and puddles. Because of the weather our group was four people which meant all our questions and interests were satisfied. We will not hesitate to use your services again. Houston, TX

Dear Rome Walks, We've just come back from Italy and while the memories are still fresh we want to thank you for the Jewish Ghetto & Trastevere walk and the Vactican City Walk with Greg and the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Walk with Carla. We learned, we enjoyed and we walked. We will highly recommend your operation to our friends. Thank you for running a first class tour company.

22/05/2007 - John Sisley (United States)
I would like to tell you what a wonderful tour Simona gave the four of us at Ostia Antica. She was a very friendly and relaxed and had a great way of presenting history. I know that she is getting an advanced degree in archeology but she is also a great teacher!

20/05/2007 - Bob and Jacque Leedom (United States)
What a shock to read your feedback page and discover that it was not just our incredible luck that we had two fantastic guides for our walks--apparently ALL of your guides are wonderful! We were informed and entertained by Antoinella on Tuesday and Greg on Wednesday. They had two completely different styles, but both were equally effective. A major selling point of your "product" is your limiting the group size to ten or fewer people; it felt like a private tour. That, plus your collection of top-notch guides, will put Rome Walks high on our list of recommendations to anyone who asks us, "What should we do in Rome?" Thanks!

05/05/2007 - Pat and Bob Morris (United States)
Dear Rome walks, Wanted to take a second to thank you and especially our guide, Sara, for enhancing our trip to Rome by so much. We learned so much of Roman history on the tour - and Sara knew the answer (in detail) to any and all of our questions about ancient Rome. We'll be recommending the Coloseum walk to all of our friends who visit Rome. Thanks.

26/04/2007 - Allan, Charmaine & Gianna Cruet (United States)
This is a highly underrated tour! Our tour guide was animated and informative, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening walk through Rome. There is no way we could have fully appreciated the sights she exposed us to, without the details she provided. Her passion for art history lent to our appreciation of the history behind each site. The cost of this tour is a bargain versus the experience! We thank you for a great tour, in a small sized group.

Dear Julia and Rome Walks, Wanted to thank you personally for being our tour guide on 3 wonderful walks last week in Rome: 1) Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Forum, 2) Evening Walk, 3) Vatican Walk. Our trip was enhanced so much by your in-depth knowledge and information that you shared with us. Your passion and zeal for Rome certainly rubbed off on us. You were a delightful guide and we (Beth, Patricia and Angela) enjoyed the tours immensely. I would highly recommend Rome Walks to other friends travelling to Rome.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful 2 weeks in Italy. While in Rome, we went on 3 of your guided walks - the Jewish Ghetto & Trestavere, the Vatican, and the Forum & Coliseum. We wanted to let you know that all 3 walks were fabulous and mainly so because of the guides that we had. For the first 2 (Jewish Ghetto & Vatican) we had Kristine, and for the Forum & Coliseum we had Karla. Both were very knowledgeable, very interesting and fun. We just wanted to say that we very much enjoyed the tours and these 2 women as our guides. Please pass along our thanks to them again for helping to make our Rome visit so enjoyable. We have already shared your company (and recommended Kristine & Karla) to several of our friends who are planning Rome visits in the next year. Thanks again, Karen & Joe Hague San Francisco, California
