Sunday Appian Way and Catacombs Walking Tour with Historian

From EUR 315

Tour pricing starts for 1 to 4 people.

This lovely 3 hour walking tour combines a visit to the San Domitilia Catacombs with a walk down the Appian Way on Sundays, when the road is closed to traffic and becomes one of the most interesting and peaceful strolls in the countryside just outside the center of Rome.

Walk on the original Roman paving stones laid over 2000 years ago and see the Circus of Maxentius, the Tomb of Cecilia Metella, and many other ancient roadside tombs of aristocratic Roman families. Umbrella Pines, twittering birds, and lovely vistas line the way.

If you wish you can have lunch at a trattoria (a typical roman restaurant), within the ruins of Augustus' Columbarium where over 3000 funerary inscriptions dating back to Ancient Rome have been found.
