Discover the lives of apostles Peter and Paul and the true history of early Christianity in Rome. Walk the paths they walked as you pass through the centre of the Eternal City, and come to the place their bones, among other apostles, are resting.
Outside of Jerusalem, there is nowhere as central to Christianity as Rome. The Empire of Rome was the motherland for all early Christians, and the city of Rome was where the apostles Peter and Paul lived among one of the first Christian communities only twenty years after the Crucifixion of Jesus. These two central figures were executed in Rome, where their bodies remain, along with the bones of five other apostles and relics of two more. Rome was also the inspiration for many of the writings in the New Testament including Apocalypse of John and many epistles and the gospels of Mark and Luke may have been at least partly written in the city itself.
This walk focuses on the central figures of early Christianity, many of whom knew Christ personally, and went on to leave a permanent mark on western history after their travels to Rome. Learn about the lives of these figures, visit the places where they set foot and where their bones are kept.
